Towing
Created by Gavin Howard, last modified on Apr 14, 2021
All of our utes have tow balls, meaning they can tow trailers. Trailers are limited to 6x4 and 8x5. During the hire process, you must ask the customer if they are planning to tow with our vehicle. Please ensure you ask the customer this question. The hirer must have permission to tow with our vehicle.
Thus, you will need to mark yes on the hire. As long as you confirm they will be towing at 8x5 or smaller and agree to stay within the weight restrictions.
We do not allow our customers to tow anything larger than an 8x5 trailer as they are simply too heavy and will exceed our utes' 1000 kilo weight limit.
That means no boats, no car trailers, no mobile skips and no furniture trailers or horse floats.
Towing checks.
The customer must ensure that their trailer plug and tow ball is compatible with our ute before connecting it. Our utes may not have the state specific trailer plug and we do not supply adapters.
All of our tow bars are fitted with a standard 50 mm ball. Every tow bar should have a sticker stating the towing capacity for that tow bar and ball. The tow bar, the trailer plug and the brake lights must be checked each time the ute is returned to ensure that the trailer has not caused any damage to the ute.
If a trailer with too many lights is used with our ute, it may cause a fuse to blow, which can engage shift lock. If this happens, the fuse will need to be replaced by the hirer.
Loading
1000 kilos maximum, a reminder that anything added to the empty ute comes off the weight capacity, including trailer weight if towing. Exceeding weight limits will cause difficulty with steering and braking and the single vehicle excess will apply for any damage caused. Please refer the customer to the loading guidelines in their hire paperwork for correct loading.
